Western Ballet Company Reshapes Classical Ballet With Latin American Motifs in a Debut Performance on Friday, July 23

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 06/23/10 -- Western Ballet Company features choreography and music by distinguished artists from Latin America in a one-night-only performance of "Danzn" on Friday, July 23, 2010, at 8 PM at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. This production showcases the power and passion of classical ballet from Latin America, inaugurating Western Ballet Company as a home of outstanding works by Latin American choreographers and composers.

"Danzn" highlights the masterwork "Fiebre" ("Fever") by the venerated Venezuelan choreographer, Vicente Nebrada, as well as music by the legendary composers Teresa Carreo of Venezuela, Arturo Marquez of Mexico and Astor Piazzolla of Argentina.

The performance will thrill audiences with stirring rhythms, captivating energy and the unrestrained expression of the Latin American style, which no other culture in the world can claim.

Said Alexi Zubira, Western Ballet Companys artistic director, "Vicente created his choreography well above the realm of classical ballet -- in the world of neoclassicism where the lines of the body extend together with the emotions. In doing so, he mastered the art of the pas de deux."

Zubira continued, "Our dancers in Danzn are therefore challenged to interpret Nebradas neoclassical works using, as much as their technical abilities, the expressiveness of their movements. With Danzn we are reshaping classical ballet into a neoclassical form with Latin American undertones, in order to convey the love, desire and intimacy of our lives."
