PALO ALTO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/08/12 -- HP (NYSE: HPQ) today announced its sponsorship of the release of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainments 3-D CG (computer graphics) feature, "Dr. Seuss The Lorax," opening nationwide on March 2.
In tandem with collaborating with Universal Partnerships Licensing (UPL) in support of the film, HP is launching a series of educational programs to connect its long-standing leadership in environmental sustainability with its commitment to education.
"The theme of responsible consumption is a priority throughout HP and spreading the message of Dr. Seuss The Lorax is something we are passionate about," said Jeff Walter, director, Environmental Sustainability and Social Innovation, Imaging and Printing Group, HP. "The Lorax is not only an inspired tale told by one of the worlds most beloved childrens authors, it is also an ecological challenge that rings true in todays time."
"Every Inkling Makes a Difference"
HP is working with Universal Pictures and global book publishing company Scholastic to create a fun and interactive science-based educational program focused on sustainability. The program, "Every Inkling Makes a Difference," is designed to help teachers discuss environmental issues with their students and learn about actions that families can take toward sustainability.
The curriculum is customized for elementary and middle school classrooms and is now available to public, private and home-school organizations via Scholastics distribution network. It also is accessible online at www.scholastic.com/thelorax.
Beginning on March 2, parents and teachers will be encouraged to read the book "The Lorax" and see the movie with their students or children, then log on to the Scholastic microsite to enter the "Every Inkling Makes a Difference" story contest.
Parents and teachers can help students submit a story describing a creative new idea for how they or their communities could live more sustainably and be entered to win prizes designed to further their educational future, including a 10,000 college scholarship from HP.
